Since being elected as Trustee, I recently attended a Seminar concerning the care and keeping of Public Records and the Open Meetings Act., which included a large segment on the Freedom of Information Act. This full day seminar was held in Orland Park. I found it very useful in my duties and obligations as a Trustee and look forward to attending more informational meetings and conferences in the near future.
In February I attended the 10th Annual Illinois Special Events Network State Convention hosted by the Chicago Southland Convention and Visitors Bureau.
I joined Mr. John Wilson, Director of Lansing’s Parks and Recreation for this two-day conference held in Tinley Park. This Conference allowed communities and organizations to draw on the expertise of state, regional and national festival leaders, providing networking opportunities, a vendor expo and an entertainment showcase. This was a great avenue of information in which we may better learn how to host a festival, further developing Lansing into a vibrant and exciting community to live in.
I am excited for the recent approval of site plans for the new Aldi location that will go up on the corner of Ridge Road and Wentworth Avenue.
I feel with their purchase of the land and their 4 million dollar investment in a new building, Lansing will gain from the property and sales taxes it will generate. This long established grocery chain will become a valuable asset to our community as it serves our residents with a variety of quality products and offering them the opportunity to keep shopping dollars in Lansing.
I worked with the Youth Center Director, Tina Weddig and Ms. Patti Leach on the 10th Anniversary Committee, along with many volunteers, to help make the event an enormous success.
