As Trustee, I am appointed by the mayor to oversee the Lansing Youth Center and Channel 4, the Lansing Neighborhood Network. I help provide the needs of each of these Village Departments and aid them in any activities they have scheduled
I'm proud to announce the Community Garden has been planted! This is a volunteer project, people working together to make Lansing better. We are looking for groups or individuals to help maintain the garden. Seniors, Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts are welcome to be part of this project.

Nancy Lucas promotes her hometown as a trustee, elected in May 2007.
Lucas was appointed by Lansing Village President Norm Abbott to help with programs and oversee the Lansing Youth Center as well as LNN, Lansing's Neighborhood Network cable Channel 4. She also recently developed the Lansing Community Garden, located south of the clock tower along the Pennsy Greenway. It was a collaborative effort with all of the plants, mulch, dirt, fertilizer and much of the manpower being donated.
"It is my hope that this garden will become an area where Scout troops or church groups might meet at our Second Saturday of the month planting and cleanup day," she said. "This day will bring in a guest speaker to teach about plants and flower gardening and residents can donate their own plant or flowers to be planted in the garden."
The Second Saturday program is 8 to 10 a.m. and begins in March.
"I am very happy about this opportunity for schools, troops, and residents to plant their own favorite flowers and then learn about blooming seasons and how to take care of plants in their own backyards."
Lucas owns and operates Dairy Queen in Lansing. Through business ownership, she's become involved in the Lansing Chamber of Commerce and Chicago Southland Convention and Visitors Bureau. She sponsors local organizations including Lansing Columbian Ladies, LARC, Camp Quality, Trinity Lutheran Church and The Lansing Old Timers.
On a local level she likes to make a difference by sponsoring school drama, music and reading programs. She's developed programs to help fund Lansing Food Pantry, such as the ‘Buck a Duck' program and generously donates ice cream to local organizations.
"I know places need help and that's how we keep it going. I don't have a ton of money, but I have ice cream," she added.
"Lansing is a great community to live in and raise your kids," she said. "I wish Mayor Abbott absolute success and I'm always looking for ways to help."
